James Franco skips Critics' Choice Awards amid sexual misconduct allegations
The actor did not attend the awards show, despite his nominations for Best Actor and Best Actor in a Comedy.
On Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, celebrities gathered to celebrate film and TV at the 23rd Critics' Choice Awards but James Franco was not among them. Since his big Golden Globe win on Sunday, Jan. 7, Franco has been hit with allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior. As such, Franco was not there to accept his award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his work in The Disaster Artist, as reported by E! News. Instead, actor Walton Goggins accepted the award on his behalf.
A source told People that Franco is "in a really bad place," noting that he was "so bad that he changed his phone number." The insider added, "His close friends are trying to be there for him but it's been hard – he's only talking to a select group of people. For now, he's just hiding out."Sketchy things everyone just ignores about Jackie Chan's kids
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Franco addressed the claims on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, calling the allegations "not accurate" but offering support to "people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn't have a voice for so long."
The Los Angeles Times later published a report detailing five women's accounts of enduring sexual misconduct at the hands of Franco. A few of the women recounted feeling pressured to remove clothing for film roles, while another woman, who had been in a relationship with Franco, claimed that he'd pressured her to perform oral sex on him.
